At a time of uncertainty, security is mandatory. Lajes has its own personnel touring the perimeter 24/7. This surveillance is provided by the military forces, at no extra cost to the operators.
Additionally, the civilian terminal has a civilian police department located close by, with agents inside the terminal all the time.
Lajes airport (LPLA/TER) is a European Union (EU) airport of entry / exit point, so Schengen and non Schengen lounges are provided to handle passengers accordingly. Since 28 october 2023,
border control is enforced by the Portuguese Police
